Your mental health is so important. If we neglect it or ignore it everything around us suffers. Our work, our home, our children, our relationships and our pets all feel or see the repercussions of us not taking care of ourselves.
A lot like a bartender or waitress, things can often turn into a therapy session during a nail appointment. These are very intimate times and often people unload their deepest and darkest when sitting across from you. Taking on all that energy whether wonderful or tragic, will take a toll on you if are not careful.
What do you do for your mental health? How do you protect it? What brings you joy?
Anyone that knows me knows how much I love my dogs! They are a huge sense of therapy for me. Long nature walks or even longer snuggles on the couch really help to turn my head space around. It is a proven fact that being out in nature can cure depression. Just being among the pine trees can be one of the most powerful things we can do for a mood changer. Natures medicine at her finest.
Music may seem like a simple answer and it really is! But, music is so powerful. When you are sad and you listen to sad music it will make you even sadder. But the same is reversed! Happy music brings us back to life! Some will take us back to a simpler or happier time! Music is my medicine.
Podcasts!! These have really changed my life. I have a 30minute commute sometimes longer and I really try to play at least one podcast a day. I listen to mostly motivational and business podcasts. Ed Mylett is amazing!! I really reccomend checking him out and same with The Skinny Confidential Him & Her. They combine inspirational stories with strategies to improve our business & mental health! These really get my mind right. Keeping me focused on what’s really important. The bigger picture.
Read a book! I’m definitely on a mental health kick right now so most of my books are focused on that. But I also love a good Brigets Jones Diary, The Hunger games, Twilight. These all are great escapes when we feel like we need a mental break. My recent faves are, Stillness is the Key by Ryan Holiday. The Magic by Rhonda Byrne. The newest in my collection is The Clarity Cleanse by Dr. Habib Sadeghi. These all tap into awareness, gratitude and clearing up the mental anxt that we all have endured at some point or another. Thus creating the perfect landscape for you to live this perfect life. I definitely recommend these books! Heck, if you don’t enjoy reading these are all available on audio book. So really no excuse 😉
I think overall we always need to be working on and protecting our mental health. Doing one small thing a day that brings you joy is not only good for you but, you friggin’ deserve it! If I can only read for five minutes, then that’s what I do. But at least I have invested some time on myself today. Have a bath, buy that more expensive bottle of wine, throw on a show, whatever it looks like. Find some time in your day to make yourself happy! The world will be a better place because of it.
If you have been neglecting it, its time to stop. Your mental health is so important! Just doing even one of these things a day will help to improve and protect your heart and soul. I mean, maybe not the expensive bottle of wine every day, but you catch my drift!
We can always be growing and learning. In business it is crucial. If we don’t continue to grow the competition will swoop in and try to ruin what we worked so hard for. We must invest in our hearts and our minds. It keep us young. It keeps us ALIVE!
Please take care of yourself. I know firsthand how it can feel if you don’t. You deserve better. You deserve the best!
As always thank you so much for taking time out of your precious day to read this. It means the world to me.
