Wow! I am so happy that we actually get to talk about summer nail trends! Let’s just take a moment to celebrate!
I feel like I have broken it down into three groups. Brights vs Pastels. Festival Nails and Yellow because let’s face it that color is everywhere right now.
Let’s get into It!
Brights vs Pastels:
This category pretty much sums up every girl I know. When it comes to summer trends you are either bright and bold or soft and pastel. Now every rule is meant to be broken so there is always the girl that wants a little of both.
Brights or NEON:
I currently have on my favorite NEON of all time, Beach Cruiser by Orly gel fx. They have a wicked NEON collection that has been quite popular with my ladies for a few years now. A little something for everyone.
There are many good brands out there that carry a bright or neon collection. Just find the color that you gravitate towards the most and Rock It!!! Whether they are short or long neon nails always make a great bold statement in the summer.
A softer statement for sure. This lovely trend carries over from Easter well into September. A nice way to ease into the season and add a little pop of color. Again short or long, I don’t discriminate. Pastel looks good on all nails. But, I would say the majority of my clients that rock a pastel nail usually have them on the sporty side.
My new favorite look with these nails is to add a matte top coat. This is a fun way to put a different spin on a pastel nail.
Now, I am a huge fan of glitter. A bit of a sparkle pusher as they say. But I don’t see a lot of it in the summer months. For whatever reason we tend to gravitate towards glitter in the fall and winter.
This is overall a great category because it covers the best of nail art for the summer months. I feel festival nails have that boho anything goes kind of vibe. Of course flowers. All the flowers. My personal favorite style you can find by @NailThoughts on the gram. She is killing this vibe right now.
Palm leaves really came onto the nail scene last summer but I think they will be sticking around for another couple of years. They are just so fun! Check out my gallery page to see a fun set I have done recently.
The abstract nail has really just serviced in the last six months. This is an anything goes style. Take your inspo from your grandmother’s couch cushion or bedspread. Dad’s old crazy sweater or 80s wall art. Then add a few dots or lines or both! And please don’t bother making them all the same. In fact why not do two entirely different designs on each hand! @NailditbyAlyssa on insta, really nails this trend! No pun intended 😉
At the end of the day you better be having fun if you are in this category. Don’t over think it and just do what feels good. We aren’t going to be matching nails to our outfits on this one!!
You can’t open Insta or Pinterest these days and not see a splash of yellow! Home decor, women’s and men’s fashion, accessories, cars and yes, our Nails! I have always been a huge an of yellow growing up, so this one really pleases me.
Starting with mustard and all they way to lemon, you can find a yellow to fit anyone’s skin tone. Which is lucky considering we are talking yellow here.
I was with a client this week actually that wanted yellow. The one I had wasn’t very flattering with her skin tone. It was too cool of a color. So what I did was add a tiny bit of orange and then some white to try to warm it up. The outcome was way better that I could expect. The perfect canary yellow. So don’t be afraid to play with your color. Play around and adjust where you see fit. You’ll be amazed with the colours you can create. One of my most popular colours doesn’t even exist unless I mix It!! #PeachPants.
When choosing summer nails, if I don’t already know the answer, I will ask my client what kind of summer girl are you? Are we the outdoors type? Biking, hiking, fishing camping or gardening. Or are we the lounge by the pool, sipping cocktails, going to the next summer party or festival kind of gal? Yes, by all means be both if you want! But generally speaking my client is either one or the other.
I ask these questions so we can determine what would suit her best. I’m not about to push long and neon on someone who is going to be up to their elbows in soil from the garden. But a cute, short flower set might be just the ticket. Get the idea? And trust me I have taken my long almond, neon, glitter nails camping before! Of course I have! But was it practical? Nope? Did I break some? Yep. But, I personally have no rational when it comes to nails. I just go with my mood, whether it makes sense or not 😉
What are some of your fave Summmer Nail Ideas? Any that you have tried recently or would like to? Please let me know what you thought of today’s article and if you had any take aways. I love hearing from you guys.
In conclusion, its summer! Be bold and daring. Have some fun with nails! Now is the time*
Good luck out there,
