I have seen these gel polish bottles too many times on amazon. For only $23 dollars I had to try them and tell you what I think. Most gel polish collections start at around $60-$120! So what are we getting for the price and was it worth it?
If you have read any of my previous articles you know I am quite particular when it comes to the type of gel that I use. For me, it is all about consistency, the brush and the handle. These three factors play a huge role in how well the gel application goes on and how long the enhancement will last for.
What am I getting for $22.99?
The first thing I noticed about Magic Armor gel polish was the super cute packaging, Arriving in a matte black gift box. The inside of the box has a faux velvet liner and six cute little matte black bottles. I am a sucker for packaging so this sleek look had me off the hop.
The ad said there was no need for base or top coat. But I am skeptical. I can’t imagine not using a bonding or priming agent when doing gel so I didn’t listen to them and used mine anyway. (Tack. Arts Desire Beauty Pro)
I have noticed that the polish is pretty shiny without a glossy top coat and there is no sticky dispersion film. Interesting*
I do think that the glossy top coat adds a bit of strength to the enhancement so I also used some of mine. (Super Shiny, Arts Desire Beauty Pro.)
This might be the con’s portion. I didn’t love the applicator brush or the size of the handles. The brush itself was bulky and had a very blunt end. This made things a little tricky when trying to get nice and close to the cuticle. This would be especially difficult for the beginner nail tech.
The handle was also a bit cumbersome. I prefer something with a longer and sleeker handle. But now I’m just being picky. I did pour out a little of the polish onto a sample pallet and used my regular gel nail brush. This made a big difference for me. The application was much easier after this.
All six colours needed three coats for the perfect coverage. I find this pretty standard with most polishes. The consistency reminds me more of a hard gel. Thicker for sure. I found that my newest student struggled with this in the beginning as we were using something with a much thinner viscosity before. But she got the hang of it!
Side note* The gel polish is NOT odorless. it does have a bit of a smell to it. I may have been more sensitive to this as the products I use are generally odorless.
I tried Magic Armor gel polish on myself and three of my clients. We all made it to the three-week mark with very little chipping. I was even using spray paint and doing some minor carpentry at the time and It passed the test!
I think the thickness of the gel polish actually beneficial in this case. It really helps with strength and longevity.
These colours are amazing! Great for Spring and Summer!! So bright and vibrant. My clients were so excited to try them and loved the results. This makes me very happy. Honestly, for the price point I really don’t think you can go wrong with the Magic Armor Gel Polish. Shipping was super fast and the product did exactly what it said it was going to do. Although, the polish colours don’t have cute little names. Just numbers. I think I am going to make up a few of my own!
I am recommending these to my students who are just starting out and are on a budget. I wish there was this type of deal when I was just getting into the business. It can feel so daunting trying to gain a collection of colours so your clients don’t get bored. This is a great way to build your showcase!
These polishes are very pigmented and creamy. I urge you to give them a try and tell me what you think. If you have ANY questions about purchasing or application please leave them in the comments below and I will get back to you ASAP!
As always thanks for reading. Please reach out if there any other polishes you would like me to review! I love finding new deals and hacks to help us monetize, expand and succeed at our dream job! (or hobby)*
Lots of Love and stay safe out there*
