That amazing velvet finish. There is nothing like it. But alas, it just doesn’t seem to last!
First of all, the nail tech should be cleansing the nail with isopropyl alcohol, especially after applying the cuticle oil. Boom, you could blow the manicure right here! The oil will immediately take away the matte finish. They will look just like a glossy top coat.
The next challenge is over the next few days, or even hours. You will deposit oils on your nails by rubbing them. Cooking. Using moisturizer. All of these will make the matte finish shiny. Leaving you wondering if you really have to wait two more weeks to change them!
This is actually an easy fix.
I tell my clients that all they need is isopropyl alcohol, nail polish remover or Tequila! But, seriously any of these would work perfectly. Just put a little on a cotton ball or some tissue and rub the nail. The nail polish remover will not affect the gel polish at all! It will look good as new.
Do this as often as you want during the life of your gel manicure.
The only time you will have issues is if you are soaking the nail in a nail polish remover that has a lot of acetone. The acetone will eventually break down the gel polish. So don’t do this! lol
So the next time you are choosing your color try mixing it up with a little matte top coat. Because, now you know how to keep it on point!
